I have spent my career building systems where performance matters. At USRobotics, I worked on modem technology approaching the Shannon limit. At Flarion, as Chief Systems Architect, I helped develop pioneering OFDM-based mobile broadband technology. Flarion was acquired by Qualcomm. I then joined Algo Technologies in 2010 as Global CTO, working with Alexei Lebedev and the Algo team on ultra-low-latency exchange technology. Algo Technologies developed AlgoM2, a matching engine achieving 16 μs external round-trip latency. Following ICE's acquisition of Algo Technologies in 2014, I joined the New York Stock Exchange as SVP, Architecture, where I helped architect NYSE Pillar, the common high-performance trading platform underlying NYSE's U.S. markets. Now we are doing it again—this time with data streaming. At AlgoX2, we are building a clean-sheet, exchange-grade data streaming platform designed for microsecond-scale latency, extreme throughput, and a dramatically smaller infrastructure footprint. The platform supports the protocols applications already use—including Kafka, Redis Streams, NATS and MQTT—on a common underlying streaming architecture. There is a common thread through my career: modems, wireless, exchanges and now data streaming. When an existing architecture reaches its limits, don't keep adding layers. Rethink the architecture.
