About Scott Ryder

Scott Ryder is Chief Technology Officer at Flow. Location: Menlo Park, California, United States.

Senior technology leader currently focused on building platforms that rethink how people experience living — blending product, engineering, and long-term architecture to enable entirely new forms of experience, commerce, and community. Three decades of working on problems that matter. Along the way I've been lucky to help put a dent in the universe — contributing to the systems that shape how people learn, watch, communicate, and connect — and to work with amazing people at Meta, Netflix, Apple, Sun, and others. More than a dozen patents across cloud computing, distributed systems, identity, security, and application architecture — most of them answering the same underlying question: how do you give people real connection to the things and people that matter to them? The work that pulls me forward right now lives at the intersection of experience, physical space, financial systems, and AI. Spaces that adapt to the humans inside them. Businesses that can adapt and grow rather than just exist. AI as a genuine collaborator not a bolted on gimmick. These are the hardest and most interesting problems I've worked on — not just because the tech is exotic, but because the outcomes have to show up in the real world, with real people, every day. I'm most energized by the future, not the past. What can technology make possible tomorrow that wasn't possible yesterday? How do we build it without losing sight of the humans on either end of it? Driven by the belief that great systems adapt to people, not the other way around. That privacy is a feature, not an obstacle. That trust compounds faster than hierarchy. That the best teams are built on mutual respect — people doing more than they thought they could because they're motivated, engaged, trusted, and supported. Over the years I've been lucky to lead teams of every size — from tight groups solving foundational problems to large distributed engineering organizations shipping to billions of people. The focus doesn't change with scale. Only the tools and the tempo do. Humanist by nature. Curious by default. Committed to teams grounded in inclusion, trust, and continuous ambition.
