About Sean Clancy

Sean Clancy is Chief Technology Officer at Matthews Real Estate Investment Services. Location: Phoenix, Arizona, United States.

I was recruited by Matthews to build the technology organization. Over five years, I've built a team of 25+ covering engineering, product, and IT that supports 900+ agents and employees across 28 offices nationwide, including 18 locations that have opened during my tenure. The most impactful thing we've created is a CRM and workflow platform that replaced our legacy Salesforce org. Today, that system runs the business, and saved $1.4 million in annual licensing and operating cost, but the savings matter less than having a system that is truly fit-to-purpose rather than a commodity. Off-the-shelf software can make a brokerage more efficient, but owning the stack lets us build around how we actually do business, move faster, and create capabilities our competitors can't just go out and buy. That's where technology stops being overhead and starts showing up in enterprise value. We've taken the same approach to AI. Rather than keeping development entirely within engineering, we've given teams in marketing, research, and underwriting LLM-based tools they can use to build solutions that optimize their workflows. We put an SDLC and governance framework around that work so they can move quickly without creating security or data security issues. The people closest to a problem should have the tools to solve it. I've been in commercial real estate technology since 2007, first at Hendricks & Partners, where I went from developer to architect and led the team through the financial crisis and Berkadia's acquisition of the firm. As Director of Development at Berkadia, I modernized a 90s-era process management model and grew the software development organization from 30 to over 150 domestic employees across 4 time zones with a dotted line to a similar footprint offshore. With nineteen years in the industry, I know what an agent's day looks like, where they are likely to run into friction, and how to fix it. I like building things, modernizing systems, and talking to people who do. Always happy to connect.
