I'm a CTO who actually builds things — and has been building things since 1998. Technology isn't just my career, it's my passion. I grew up taking things apart to understand how they work, and that curiosity never left. It's why I started pursuing Novell certifications and building websites while still on active duty in the Coast Guard, and it's why I still write code today as a C-suite executive. My career started in technical support, moved through network engineering (CNE, MCSE, CCNA), and expanded into full-stack development and data engineering. I've been writing T-SQL since 1998 and application code since 2003. With 28 years in IT and 24+ years in mortgage, I've spent my career at the intersection of technology and lending — writing code, architecting systems, and leading teams that make mortgage operations faster, smarter, and more reliable. I've been hands-on with Encompass since the Ellie Mae days, built custom LOS integrations and SDK applications, and developed predictive models for pipeline forecasting and fallout analysis. When something breaks at 2am, I'm the person who can actually fix it — not just escalate it. My father was a teacher his entire career, and that shaped how I lead. I don't just manage people — I invest in helping them understand the why behind the work. That instinct shows up in how I mentor junior developers, how I bridge the gap between technical teams and executives, and how I build organizations that grow people alongside the business. What makes my background unusual: I hold an active mortgage loan originator license (NMLS #1914070) — not because I originate loans, but because I wanted to fully understand the business I was building technology for. I've also served as branch manager for state licensing expansions, giving me firsthand exposure to the compliance and regulatory side of IMB operations that most technology leaders never see. Right now I'm most excited about AI and automation in mortgage — the opportunity to reduce manual work, improve data quality, and build smarter pipelines is real and I'm actively building toward it.
