Currently CTO of Vertex (Nasdaq: VERX), where over the past five years I have led a 1,000+ person organization spanning product management, software engineering, AI and data, technology strategy, architecture, cybersecurity, and product support. More than two decades of board experience across public, private, and private-equity-backed companies, with particular depth in product and technology strategy, cybersecurity, transformation, M&A, and strategic transactions. Board experience includes Absolute Security (Nasdaq: ABST), DDS Wireless (TSX: DD), Energy Exemplar, HSI, and Emergency Communications Network, with service across Audit, Compensation, Governance & Nominating, and strategic committees. My current focus is the intersection of AI, business strategy, and corporate governance. As enterprises increasingly delegate decisions and actions to AI systems and autonomous agents, boards need to move beyond simply understanding how AI is being used and establish effective oversight of decision rights, guardrails, accountability, explainability, human oversight and intervention, auditability, and risk. Earlier executive leadership includes CTO roles at Business Objects and SAP, CTO of Elastic Path, and nearly 12 years at IBM, where I helped establish and scale the IBM Pacific Development Center and led pioneering enterprise internet and e-commerce initiatives.
