One of my favorite TV shows is Mad Men. I love to see how businesses ran before technology, and aside from the drama inherent to that kind of show I like to think it boils down to one thing: relationships. There are a lot of things that technology can do, but it doesn't have the human touch. That's where I come in. I think it is important to understand the business requirements before suggesting a technical solution. It's common to jump to a technical answer before taking the time to carefully define the question, and it almost always leads to disappointment. Discovering the right solution is sometimes a steep climb; I like to be the Sherpa. Over the years I have distilled a few guiding principles that help me to be successful in this endeavor: --Humility- I don't need to be the smartest person in the room. --Integrity- Do what's right. Admit mistakes and move on. --Transparency- Make decisions in the open with input from those who choose to participate. --Empathy- Walk in the shoes of the other person. Listen intently and keep an open mind. I have over 20 years of leadership and technical experience, and I really enjoy making new professional acquaintances.
