If you’ve ever led a digital modernization effort inside government, you know the pattern: inflated promises, accompanied by 200-page slide decks that become scratch paper, and by the time the launch date arrives, the original point people you signed the contract with are nowhere to be found. As you know, in government, the stakes aren’t quarterly metrics or app downloads. They’re warfighters trying to get access to supplies, veterans trying to access benefits, citizens navigating healthcare, and agencies defending data integrity. This is why modernization can’t be theater. It has to work in restoring trust in how systems serve real people. Reliably. Securely. Humanely. I co-founded Oddball to prove that government technology can move fast and stay grounded. Our teams translate complex policy into functioning, repeatable human-centered systems that stand up to audits, serve the public masses, and scale across agencies. Today, through Oddball Labs, I’m extending that mission as we focus on bringing responsible AI, DevOps maturity, and automation to the public sector, proving that innovation can be both safe and measurable. Labs publishes its findings openly, so federal leaders can evaluate new approaches before committing to large-scale investments. We measure outcomes, shorten learning cycles, and share what works so the entire ecosystem benefits. My job as CTO is to design architectures and teams that make upgrading repeatable, secure, human-centered, and never over-engineered. Over the last decade, I’ve led our engineers in updating mission-critical systems and platforms for agencies that touch millions of Americans, like the VA and CMS.
