Rick Lievano is the Worldwide Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft’s Telecommunications & Media industries, where he partners with leading service providers and ecosystem partners to shape the future of telecommunications. He works at the intersection of cloud, data, networks, and artificial intelligence, helping operators design and adopt industry grade solutions and reference architectures that address the rapidly evolving demands of global telecom markets. A recognized industry leader and frequent speaker, Rick is a strong advocate for open standards and collaborative innovation. He holds TM Forum Open Digital Architecture and Business Development Manager Career Certifications and actively contributes to industry alignment efforts as a member of TM Forum’s Composable IT & Ecosystems Mission, where he helps drive the development and adoption of pragmatic, value focused best practices across the industry. Rick has served as a Board Member of the Mplify Alliance and Linux CAMARA, playing a key role in advancing open APIs, ecosystem interoperability, and composable architectures for the next generation of digital services. In his current role, he leads Microsoft initiatives focused on enabling telecom operators to achieve more by responsibly infusing agentic artificial intelligence across their businesses—accelerating innovation, improving operational autonomy, and unlocking new sources of value in a secure and trusted manner.
