About Peter Jarrett

Peter Jarrett is Chief Technical Officer at Ocular Therapeutix, Inc. Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States.

I have been working in the field of bioresorbable polymers for medical devices and drug delivery for more than 40 years. Since joining Ocular Therapeutix in 2007, my work increasingly focused on the serious, sight-threatening diseases of the retina, such as diabetic retinopathy. This disease claimed the eyesight of my grandmother, an experience I have never forgotten and drives my dedication to this work. Previously, I was Vice President of R&D at Focal, subsequently being named VP of Biomaterials R&D at Genzyme upon the latter company’s acquisition of Focal. I started in the medical field in Corporate R&D of American Cyanamid, later moving to the Davis and Geck division. At Cyanamid, Focal, Genzyme and Ocular, my work was to develop bioresorbable polymers for medical devices and drug delivery systems, resulting in numerous patents and publications. In the years since receiving my PhD in polymer science, my work has ranged from discovery to commercialization. Creating commercial products to meet a medical need, whether from my own or colleagues' inventions, has been the most satisfying aspect of my career. The invention and development of OTX-TKI for the treatment of retinal diseases is certainly the most impactful product I have been associated with. I am grateful to my colleagues at Ocular Therapeutix for their work in bringing this important product forward, which takes a huge effort from many talented contributors.
