In 2020, Dr. Sorensen founded Finity Engineering LLC, where highly accomplished professionals in automation, mechatronics, robotics, and consumer products work alongside leading researchers from top universities to provide design, analysis, consulting, and litigation support services. Dr. Sorensen has over 20 years of experience developing and deploying cutting-edge mechatronic, motion control, and automation solutions. He was chief architect of Expertoperator, Safemove, Automove, and Cranevision – technologies used in the primary metals, automotive, heavy equipment, and aerospace sectors for improving crane safety, productivity, and ease-of-use. Sorensen also developed best-in-class trajectory synthesis software for Cartesian machines. These industry-recognized technologies were key drivers in the acquisition of his first start-up 5 years after inception by a global leader in automation. Sorensen also served as CTO at PaR Systems, a world-class supplier of large-scale automation, control, manufacturing, and nuclear-handling solutions. Responsibilities included: technical oversight of critical projects; identifying and mitigating technical risk; leading in the creation of cutting-edge control, automation, and robotic technologies; directing R&D; managing technology portfolio; and disseminating best-practice engineering methodologies. In addition to industry roles, Sorensen is a Commercial Instrument-Rated Pilot, and Adjunct Professor at Georgia Tech. He teaches various engineering topics including Dynamics, Motion Control, Mechatronics, The Design Process, Product Development, and others. Sorensen has given invited talks in these areas at premiere institutions globally including MIT, Kumoh National University of Technology, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Kyung Hee University, and Huazhong University of Science & Technology. Sorensen holds several patents, and has published numerous articles pertaining to advanced motion control and human factors. Dr. Sorensen is a former NSF STEP Fellow, USAA National Collegiate Engineer, and ARCS fellowship recipient. Sorensen has been recognized as an engineering expert in numerous product liability and IP disputes – by Federal courts, as well as by the ITC, USPTO, PTAB, and US Customs and Border Protection. Areas of expertise in which he has provided litigation support include: automation, dynamics and controls, kinematics, machine vision, mechatronics, photogrammetry, robotics, sensors, wheeled mobility systems, tire mechanics, traction control, wheel slip, vibrations, and warnings
