I have a passion for bringing insights and execution to the intersection of business and technology. Having spent the entirety of my career involved in building software solutions, I thrive when I am able to build great engineering teams that build great software products. To do this is more than just knowing technologies and development processes, it is about understanding the business of software, using a whole product approach, having engaged team members, and how all of that informs and influences what clients purchase. My approach to leadership leverages my deep expertise in the business of software, technology, product, and the art of software architecture and includes: ~ learning the business and domain and working with clients ~ leveraging the ecosystem and technology partners around a product domain to accelerate value ~ trust and coordination among teams and across peers ~ continuous evaluation of emerging technologies and how they apply to different problems ~ understanding costs; costs to build or buy as well as working with the skill sets of the team that inform technology selection and choices ~ developing talent and creating an engaging environment for teams to work within ~ building an engineering culture where team members are engaged, speak up, bring concerns forward, are empowered, and where failure is not the end of the world ~ delivering value to the market consistently and frequently ~ respecting team culture, team topologies and Conway’s Law What I have done: ~ scaled teams and company growth ~ transitioned operation models from on premise to SaaS ~ built high volume transaction based systems with eCommerce and ERP ~ modernized engineering teams from silos to a “you build it, you run it” model ~ championed devOps, infrastructure as code, and security as fundamentally part of the software product itself ~ restructured leadership teams ~ worked with geographically dispersed teams ~ managed a complex technology base of solutions in different technologies and architectures from on premise to SaaS ~ advised C-suite peers, boards, technology partners, and investment and financial companies in a range of financial transactions including acquisitions, divestitures, merger integrations, and initial public offerings/IPOs Additionally, I enjoy helping others in the technology space, whether it be sharing my knowledge with startups or mentoring others with their career development.
