About Jason Ryder

Jason Ryder is Founder & CTO at Oobli. Location: Oakland, California, United States.

I am a bioprocess engineer, entrepreneur, and educator with experience in process & product development, engineering design, scale up, and commercialization in the industrial biotech & food tech sectors. My professional work has ranged from small molecules to proteins with applications spanning sustainable chemicals, fuels, materials, and foods. Currently I lead R&D and engineering at Oobli, a food technology company producing sweet proteins to replace sugar in consumables - particularly in food & beverages. I also bring my experience into the classroom at UC Berkeley, where I teach bioprocess fundamentals & applications to aspiring scientists & engineers. From a technical perspective, I enjoy connecting great research & process development to robust design & operations through sound economics & engineering. In my recent work, I have applied this philosophy to both plant-based and microbial fermentation processes with feedstock pretreatment, product recovery, and purification. I am now focused on developing, scaling, and commercializing functional protein ingredients & products to enhance the taste, experience, and health of our food. As a leader and manager, I enjoy building highly functioning teams of people and setting them up for success with clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability. In growing and developing my students and team members, I focus on leveraging the talents & strengths of individuals, building the specific skills & experience they need, and coaching them to success.
