About Gaurav Sareen

Gaurav Sareen is Chief Technology Officer - CAP at Microsoft. Location: Redmond, Washington, United States.

I am CTO for Copilot, Agents, and Platform organization at Microsoft. I work on how we decide, build, ship, and learn in the age of AI. I joined Microsoft as a founder of the Bing engineering team and have spent the years since building products and systems at Microsoft scale. Most recently, I led Outlook, the mail and calendar product used by hundreds of millions of people every day, and helped build the foundation for the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Earlier in my career, my teams shaped how Bing technology shows up across Azure and Office. What I care about now is the small machinery of how engineering organizations actually work. How fast truth reaches the people who can act on it. Whether a team is shipping learning or just shipping motion. Whether failure is treated as data or as embarrassment. Whether the system around the product is improving as quickly as the product itself. AI makes it possible to redesign this machinery, not just speed it up. My work is to help Microsoft build an operating model where teams learn faster, ship with confidence and humility, and improve products through evidence, not theater. I read across philosophy, science, and memoir. I hike, practice a bit of yoga and meditation, and try to be helpful to my family, my friends, and the people I have been lucky enough to work with.
