About Gaurang Kavaiya
Gaurang Kavaiya is Chief Technology Officer, Home Division at Generac. Location: Greater Houston, United States.
I lead the technology agenda for Generac's Home Division: the company's largest business by revenue and profit, spanning home standby generators, portable generators, residential solar, energy storage, microinverters, and connected energy management. My career has been a 25-year arc from silicon to systems to connected ecosystems: PIC microcontroller firmware platforms at Microchip → mixed-signal SoC product definition and embedded systems at Cypress → integrated residential solar at SunPower → and now full-stack energy technology at Generac. The common thread: building reliable, scaled, connected hardware that ships in millions and stays in the field for 25 years. A few things I'm proudest of: - At Generac: integrating acquired businesses onto common platforms; rescuing two stalled clean energy programs (PWRmicro microinverter, PWRcell home battery) and getting them to production; consolidating 5M+ customers from five fragmented apps into a single platform with built-in home AI assistant capability; building a production AI/ML platform delivering energy optimization and outage prediction on physical products. - At SunPower: defining and commercializing Equinox, the first fully integrated residential solar system in the US, and driving it from 0 to 90% dealer adoption in under a year. Building an IoT fleet platform serving 3M+ nodes at >98% connectivity. Scaling the microinverter business from 50K to ~1M units/year to a #3 US market position. Executing the microinverter business exit that generated $1B+ for SunPower via the Enphase transaction. I reported to CEO and was part of the executive staff in the last year - On AI: everyone has an AI story; what matters is whether you can ship it at unit economics that work. We've put AI features into our mobile app serving 5M+ customers, built a production AI/ML platform delivering energy optimization and outage prediction on connected products, and are in advanced stages of an AI-augmented software factory that's meaningfully changing engineering productivity. What I've found rare in this space is keeping production token economics tight while shipping features customers feel. - Across my career: 10 USPTO patents, board service at Tendril, and engineering organizations built across the US, Ukraine, Romania, Latvia, France, Mexico, China, and India. I think a lot about the intersection of hardware reliability, software platforms, and dealer-channel businesses: the spaces where complex physical products meet recurring software experiences and where reliability isn't a feature but a 25-year contract.
