Gabe Monroy is the Chief Technology Officer for Workday, focused on evolving Workday's technology stack to be more open, extensible, and AI-native, while also harnessing AI to accelerate Workday's pace of innovation. Gabe was formerly the VP/GM for the Cloud Runtimes business at Google, leading efforts to empower customers to run cloud-native and strategic AI/ML workloads on Google Cloud. He oversaw Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and directed Google's strategic investments in the Kubernetes project and related cloud-native open source technologies. Additionally, he guided the Serverless portfolio, driving the development of developer-focused compute products such as Google Cloud Run. Prior to Google, Gabe Monroy was the Chief Product Officer at DigitalOcean, responsible for Engineering, Product Management, Design, and User Research for customer-facing product teams. He was formerly VP of the Azure Developer Experience group in Microsoft’s Developer Division, where he led the application-centric services and tools on Azure, including compute services, platform services, and developer tools and SDKs. Gabe was the founder and CTO of Deis, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2017. After joining Microsoft, he started Azure Kubernetes Service, which is the fastest growing compute service in Azure history. As an early contributor to Docker and Kubernetes, and a founding member of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, Gabe has deep experience in open source software and cloud native technology. Gabe speaks frequently at industry events on cloud services, distributed systems, and software development and operations.
