About Dave Longley
Dave Longley is Founder, CTO, and Owner at Digital Bazaar, Inc. Location: Blacksburg, Virginia, United States.
Dave is a founder and the Chief Technology Officer of Digital Bazaar where his responsibilities include designing and executing the core technology strategy for the organization. He is the primary technical architect behind a number of world standards related to Linked Data and security technologies, such as JSON-LD, which is employed by Google's Gmail service and used by over 425 million people worldwide. JSON-LD is also used extensively by Microsoft, Yahoo!, Yandex, healthdata.gov, and the BBC. Dave's background in Computer Science has led to the creation of novel commercial software products that integrate peer-to-peer technology for the transmission and monetization of music, movies, and games. A lack of infrastructure technologies needed to achieve these solutions required him to invent efficient, high-performance software systems in C, C++, Python, C#, Java, JavaScript, and PHP. Dave oversees, creates, designs, and implements open standards and technologies that integrate payments and identity into the core architecture of the Web. His heavy involvement with the design of standards-track technologies at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) includes work around Web identity, Web payments, HTTP authentication, and secure messaging. His work in the area of cryptography has led to his software's use to help secure 90% of the world's binding online elections. The technology he builds creates interoperable, decentralized, Web-scale systems that break down barriers to financial and societal innovation.
