About Daryl Cromer

Daryl Cromer is PCSD CTO & Product Security at Lenovo. Location: Raleigh, North Carolina, United States.

My role at Lenovo builds on over 25 years in business management, research, technology development and engineering, at Lenovo and before that at IBM. Joining the group in 2005, I am a Vice President in the company and CTO of Lenovo's worldwide PC and Smart Device (PCSD) Group, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. My team looks into the future, at technology trends that we should consider, that users can take advantage of, and that help maintain Lenovo's market leadership. I am also responsible for PCSD’s security reviews and governance as Chief Product Security Officer. We're advocates for technology change, and we work to reconcile the 'innovator’s dilemma' - which technology to consider, which to bring to market, what the customers' needs might be. We create what we call a productive tension around new technology options. You can see the results on devices across the Lenovo device range. My career started in chip design at IBM, and has covered systems design, networking design and software design, and research. I have been granted over 400 US patents, and I especially love that moment when you show someone a new design or a new approach to a solution, and they understand your novel approach - to this day, that's very gratifying. In short, I stand on the bully pulpit to influence and guide technology thinking at Lenovo, to enable without ever insisting that a given route be taken, and without coercion! At the core is the answer to one simple question: how does this make the user's life easier?
