Dan was previously Senior Vice President, Molecular Engineering Unit, at NexImmune, Inc., where he led a molecular design team to create new immunotherapeutic, multispecific proteins and antibodies. Prior to NexImmune, he led a team of 23 staff members at Intrexon Corp. (now Precigen) focused on the company's synthetic biology needs and piloted their first CAR-T program (UltraCart) and successfully engineered a prototype therapeutic virus that led to the FDA-approved product "Vyjuvek" for the treatment of Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (DEB), now owned and marketed by Krystal Biotech. He was previously co-founder and Vice President of Cardiovascular Biology of Artesian Therapeutics, Inc., which was acquired by Cardiome Pharma (Vancouver, BC) in 2005. He created the largest known cardiovascular gene-expression database for Gene Logic and has published key translational research on heart disease that led to the identification of new drug targets. Dr. Bednarik served as a key scientist in the development of the Human Genome Sciences (HGS) database and has 30+ years of experience in virology, with an emphasis on HIV and herpesvirus pathology studies conducted at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center and the Dana-Farber Institute at Harvard. He was co-recipient of a $2MM DARPA contract in 2006, where he and his colleagues developed a novel non-host method for rapid vaccine manufacture. His training in Biochemistry was completed at Temple University School of Medicine (Philadelphia) in 1985, and The Johns Hopkins University Oncology Center (Baltimore).
