Dr. Charles Clancy is a successful science and technology innovator, executive, and entrepreneur. He joined MITRE in 2019 and currently serves as the company’s CTO and senior vice president for technology and engineering. He leads technology strategy, laboratory infrastructure, independent research and development, industry and academic partnerships, technology transition, and a world-class team of over 4,000 technical staff delivering excellence to the six Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) operated by MITRE. Dr. Clancy previously founded and directed the Hume Center for National Security and Technology at Virginia Tech where he served as the Bradley Distinguished Professor of Cybersecurity in the electrical and computer engineering department. He started his career leading R&D programs at the National Security Agency. Dr. Clancy was named a Fellow of the IEEE for technical leadership in "secure and wireless communications" and has co-authored six books, 15 issued patents, and over 200 peer-reviewed publications. Additionally he has co-founded five venture-backed deep-tech/defense-tech startups, including HawkEye 360 ($HAWK).
