About Chris Calkins
Chris Calkins is Chief Technology Officer at Ant Brain Enterprises . Location: Cumberland, Virginia, United States.
In my career journey I became enamored with connections and flows of information. This lead me at first to learn how this digital landscape worked. Learning the Comptia A+, Network+, Linux+, and Security+ certifications. Finding a knack in networking I moved down the Cisco Route and Switch primary path, working my way up to the CCNP level route and route and switch path. During this time educating myself, my career also moved along to understand how networks integrated in to a companies infrastructure. Learning from cellular carriers, Verizon Wireless, in supporting their enterprise grade MPN network solutions and military technologies. From there a branch of the Department of Defense working for their NOC in understanding how to interpret live world wide data, parse it, and understand the patterns network equipment moved through to create better proactive steps before failure occurred. This including interdepartmental communications, site staff communication and call in maintenance checks, and managing a small specialized team in making sure the uptime and availability of a global network would be the highest possible. Next in my career an opportunity presented itself to be a network engineer for a mid level Internet Service Provider, and so started my next step in engineering enterprise network solutions for colleges, hospitals, small and mid-sized businesses, and learning the backbone of how our interconnected world functions. TEK Systems contacted me with a position with Anthem Inc, opened a path at starting a NOC training program at a company. During my time there I moved and adapted their A/V system for a move within the building and worked with the building team implementing the wiring needs, mounting points, system specifications, and ordering of parts in order to deliver a new generation solution to their TOC program. After developing documentation for that system as well as running through a training course in basic networking understanding, as well as training in basic network programming methodology I was called elsewhere by a new opportunity. TEK Systems again came to me with an opportunity that I did not feel that I could pass by. SyCom Technologies had a position to fill and after speaking with their Director and CSO we agreed that SyCom Technologies would be a good home to me as I delved further in to network programming, new generational technologies from Cisco Systems as well as others such as Fortinet, Palo Alto, Meraki, and more.
