About Casey McCarthy

Casey McCarthy is Chief Technology Officer at UncommonGoods. Location: New York, New York, United States.

Business-focused CTO working on retail/e-commerce future. Currently focused on AI, Cloud, Security, Robotics, and Automation. I've been the Chief Technology Officer at UncommonGoods for over a decade now. Previously, I was a successful Internet and management consultant, developer, manager, and architect at Organic and Ernst & Young, leading projects for companies including Bloomingdales, Mercedes-Benz, S&P, Citibank, Museum of the Moving Image, Tommy Hilfiger, and Fathom. Early in my career I became a full-stack developer, becoming an expert in front-end (HTML, JavaScript), middleware (Java), and back-end (SQL) technologies. I very quickly became a Java certified programmer, developer, and architect. I've also worked as a windows and linux systems administrator. I've always naturally been a leader and managed people, projects, and processes to collaborate and improve. I recently got PMP and CSM certification to ensure best practices in project management. Before my professional career, I graduated from Columbia University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and a strong science and math education. That is where I started immersing myself in Internet technologies, particularly the World Wide Web. I wrote my first web site right when the first graphical browsers came out, so it was great timing. I was addicted and knew I wanted to focus on it for my career. I've worked since I was young and have had many different jobs, including snowboard instructor, pony handler, lifeguard captain, bartender, and security guard. At Columbia for the last 2 years I balanced 3 jobs - I was a Resident Adviser (RA) to students, the Assistant to the Chair of the Industrial Engineering department, and an Assistant for the academic publication "Mathematical Programming".
