About Bill Serva
Bill Serva is Chief Technology Officer at Moon Valley Nurseries. Location: Greater Phoenix Area, United States.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Religious Studies from the University of Arizona. Not computer science. After over 25 years in technology and multiple leadership positions, I'm convinced that was the right preparation for this career, because nearly every technology failure I've been brought in to fix turned out to be a people failure. I help organizations see clearly. Where they are trying to go, what's in the way, and what combination of people, processes, and technology they need to get there. Then I build the team that gets it done. At Moon Valley Nurseries I lead technology for the largest box tree grower in America, 54 nurseries across seven states. I've replaced paper and legacy systems with Oracle Xstore and Field Service, stood up an enterprise data platform with AI-enabled self-service reporting, and integrated five acquisitions. At Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona, I built an IT department that generated revenue selling an internally designed pricing and tag printing system to other Goodwill organizations, and led their Workday and Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementations across over 100 stores and more than $200 million in revenue. The work I'm proudest of isn't a system or an implementation. It's the people who've worked for me that now run teams and departments of their own. I write about technology leadership at billserva.com and have published several articles for The National CIO Review. I'm also a repeat ORBIE Awards finalist in the Large Corporate CIO category.
